Through sperm and vaginal secretions:Through sexual relations without a condom with vaginal or anal penetration, the major way of transmission of the virus, as much for men as for women. The risk of infection by HIV increases statistically with the number of partners, but one unprotected relation alone with a person infected could be enough to be contaminated. As for contact with the mouth or the anus, the few cases of contamination are very rare. However it would be beneficial to avoid receiving sperm in the mouth.Through the blood:Through the sharing of needles within drug addicts who should also protect themselves from contamination through sexual routes by using a condom.Through maternal and fetal interactions:There is a risk of transmission from the HIV positive mother to the child during pregnancy or during childbirth. Breastfeeding is able to be a cause of contamination of the infant, it’s not recommendedFrench agency against AIDS. [Translated by Monica Jackson.]
